For the determination of freezing influence on soils up to 16 mm maximum grain size.

Double version to test 2 samples at same time and similar upper and lower temperatures determining the influence of freezing and thawing to the bearing capacity of soil materials. The whole testing process comprising 3 x 24 h of presetting, freezing and thawing is fully software controlled and all relevant data such as temperatures, displacement of swelling etc. are registered in real time. The process can be started also with a time shift between test place 1 and test place 2.

The apparatus consist of 2 elements, one of which operates as a master for the second one and comprising:

• Base body with temperature isolated removable top cap
• Aluminium socle with O-ring sealing for cooling of the sample base placed on a PVC base plate with 3 screw rods
• Perforated filter plate
• Top plate made from Aluminium
• Two temperature sensors Pt 100 installed in the aluminium socle and the top plate to register both upper and lower temperature. The master is equipped with one additional sensor in the lower aluminium socle used to control the two cooling thermostats
• Isolating discs made of neoprene
• detachable holding bracket for for displacement transducer
• 2 displacement transducer
• Stainless steel surcharge weights 2.5 kg (3 each)
• Mariott s bottle with scale, stand and clamp connected to the aluminium socle
• Windows Software infraCOOL
• Transport baseplate with handles to set the CBR-mould into the freezing chamber

For operation a set of cooling thermostat units 42-2290, two CBR-moulds 42-2270 as well as a computer min. i3-processor with Windows software have to be availalble. The double unit needed for computer interface RS232 total of five serial interfaces. For this we recommend the interface adapter USB to serial 8x.

For the installation and operation we recommend 42-2295, 42-2296 and two of 45-0115 with obligatory data interface RS 232.
